Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) is a chronic condition that causes the gastrointestinal tract to become inflamed (red, sore, or swollen). IBD can occur at any age, but patients who develop it as young children have a distinct form regarding disease location, disease extension over time, and a disease that is often challenging to treat. Growth may be impaired, and school and social development can be interrupted by frequent disease flare-ups and hospitalizations.
The interNational Early Onset Paediatric IBD Cohort Study (NEOPICS) is a Sickkids' based initiative that brings together international paediatric gastroenterologists and scientists from academic centres around the world to work together.
